The Scottish Countryside Alliance Educational Trust project ‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ was launched at Forbes of Kingennie yesterday. Offering children form urban backgrounds the chance to go fishing with qualified instructors from Kingennie Fishings. A new initiative aimed at tackling the menace of anti- social behaviour will give youngsters form Angus the chance to get involved in angling.
It is hoped that the new initiative will help participants to appreciate the environment and also help them learn new skills. As well as teaching the practical side of fishing, the course also contains information on environmental and conservations issues in an effort to educate the youngsters about their natural surroundings.,
A spokesmen for Forbes of Kingennie said – ‘Kingennie fishings is proud to be the centre for ‘Get Hooked on Fishing is Scotland’
We have an ideal base here to introduce youngsters to see the sport of angling and see the sport as an excellent diversion to help avoid anti-social behaviour. Our aim is to provide youngsters wit an introductory day course on angling and to allow them an insight into the countryside as a whole.
Trust Chairman Tony Andrews added –‘Angling is our most popular participatory sport, and all youngsters should have the chance of participating in it.
Anglers are the guardians and champions of our river, sea and loch environments. They are also people who value the natural environment.
‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ gives young people the opportunity to learn about these things, about relationships with others, and about themselves. The project is about people much more than it is about catching fish’
