Making the most of your self catering holiday in Scotland
Naturally, here at Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort in Scotland, self catering holidays and breaks at our woodland and waterside lodges afford you the option to cook at your lodge, or alternatively eat out in one of the many local restaurants.
The superb kitchens in all our self catering holiday lodges are fully equipped with all utensils, crockery and appliances – including dishwasher and clothes washing machine/dryer.
Our Country House is set at the heart of the Forbes of Kingennie estate with timber-decked balconies and terraces overlooking the fishing ponds and beautiful Angus countryside. Within the Country House resides the Waterside Restaurant, which serves a wide range of mouth-watering fresh local produce and good old fashioned home baking. The Waterside Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 9am each day.
The centrepiece of the restaurant is a stunning two-pool freshwater aquarium, which contains five species of trout along with carp, roach and bream and is a great source of information and enjoyment for children and budding fishermen.
The Cairn O' Mount bar is open daily and is situated beside the Waterside Restaurant, serving a wide range of beers, spirits and snacks.
The Inglesmaldie function suite and Macnabs Bar, which have been tastefully decorated in a contemporary Scottish style, also form part of the Country House. They are an idyllic location for a romantic wedding or a corporate function near Dundee, and we will take care of all the arrangements to ensure you thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Cleaning & ServicingAll lodges and holiday cottages are professionally cleaned thoroughly between lets and are continuously maintained to the highest standards as you would expect. In order not to intrude and let you enjoy the privacy and tranquility of your stay at Forbes of Kingennie Lodges, we do not service the lodges during your stay.
However, our reception is always on hand for you to report any problems or extra comforts you may require during your stay as it is important that we know these to maximise guest satisfaction, comfort and welfare, and to assist with our maintenance programme.
We would respectfully ask that all lodge tenants ensure that they endeavour to keep the holiday cottages in pristine condition during their stay and, on departure, ensure that, as far as possible, the accommodation is left clean and tidy.
ShoppingLocated as we are in a peaceful secluded country location, for essential shopping the obvious choice is the city of Dundee, only 5 miles away, where you can stock up with all the usual day-to-day food, drink, cooking, housekeeping and other requirements very easily as all the main supermarkets and stores are represented there, all with substantial free on-site parking and disabled facilities.
Stop awhile to explore Dundee city centre where shopping in the magnificent glass-fronted Overgate shopping centre must be close to shopping heaven, with a major department store and a wealth of well-known outlets for adult and children's clothing, together with music and specialist shops.
The pedestrianised High Street leads neatly from the Overgate to the Murraygate and Wellgate shopping centres, which have more department stores and retailers to suit all interests. Look out for City Quay, on the Dundee waterfront, where factory outlets aim to guarantee designer labels at low prices.
Throughout the year, shopping in Dundee City centre takes on a European flavour, with Continental Markets in June and December. Stallholders bring their produce from Germany, France and Italy. Ever-popular Farmers' Markets run both in Dundee and around Angus.
However, while you are enjoying a self catering holiday or short break with us, do also try a different dimension in shopping by visiting some of Angus' rural towns like Forfar, Kirriemuir or Arbroath – or get out and about in rural Angus and neighbouring Tayside and explore the work of talented and gifted craftspeople in small craft studios and workshops. |
